Wai is one of the first towns in India to implement a scheduled desludging program and treat this waste in a safe manner through strong partnerships between the government and private sector and an independent financial model to ensure inclusive sanitation for its citizens. In population and size, Wai is representative of 7400+ towns in India, and thus its successful model of sanitation if replicated could potentially impact 150 million people who live in these towns or approximately 50% of India’s urban population.
